Victorian Terraced House, Croydon – Express Replastering after Rising Damp treatment

This house was purchased in 2013. After receiving an initial survey during the buying process the property the owner followed instruction to have the house surveyed thoroughly for damp by an approved PCA contractor. RLH Developments Ltd were brought in to identify the problems and carry out the most appropriate solution.

The Problem

RLH identified several problems with rising and penetrating damp throughout the property and were asked to carry out the remedial action required to treat the rising damp present in on the flank wall. RLH instructed that penetrating damp issues should be resolved through repairs to the roof via a third party contractor.

The Solution

A typical rising damp treatment would require 28 days for plaster to fully cure and for decorating to be carried out. In this case the owner required that the property be ready for redecoration sooner and it was the decided that the Dryzone System Express Replastering method should be used.

The owner also requested that the entire wall should be replastered instead of the standard 1.5 metres to create a seamless finish. Although this increased the material requirement marginally the amount of time required to replaster to full height using the Express Replastering System as opposed to 1.5 metres was negligible.

The job was completed in one day with the existing plaster being removed from the entire wall in a morning and the rising damp treatment and replastering completed in a single afternoon. Once the original plaster was removed, Dryzone Damp-Proofing Cream was applied across the wall and Dryshield Cream painted onto the entire face.

After the Dryshield Cream had fully absorbed into the wall, 6′ × 4′ plasterboards were prepared and fixed to the wall using Drygrip Adhesive. Once the plasterboards had been applied a standard gypsum skim coat was applied and left for the occupier to paint and redecorate at a later date. After the skim coat had dried the occupier was left with a warm, dry wall and a damp free home.
