Treatment of Rising Damp using Dryzone Damp-proofing Cream at Fir Tree House, Upton Hospital, Slough, UK.

The NHS Estates Design and Technical Services Department had a requirement for the internal refurbishment of this specialist children's hospital. They required the successful contractor to carry out the full refurbishment package, including the necessary damp-proofing and redecoration. The extensive works had to be carried out without affecting the running of the hospital.

The Solution

The contract was won by Stonehouse Property Care of Henley-on-Thames who proposed the use of Dryzone damp-proofing cream. By using Dryzone, Stonehouse were able to offer a much less obtrusive treatment than would have been the case with standard chemical injection systems.
Dryzone can be injected in approximately one third of the time taken to inject a traditional chemical damp course, so disruption was kept to a minimum. Furthermore, Dryzone's low hazard, solvent-free formulation meant that adjacent rooms did not have to be closed while treatment took place.

The Result

Over 150 metres of brick walls at the hospital were protected with Dryzone. The building stayed open throughout the works, and the children did not miss appointments or treatment. The works were completed on time and to a tight budget.

Graham Stone, Managing Director of Stonehouse was extremely pleased with the way that the job went. Commenting on the suitability of Dryzone for the contract, he said, "we would not have tendered for the job with any other product."
