Waterproofing of Concrete Podium Deck at Chatham Maritime, Chatham, UK.
Project Background
"The Quays" is a leisure and residential development forming part of the regeneration of Chatham's historic dockyard. The development was designed by architects, Wilkinson Eyre, and constructed by the Ardmore Group on behalf of Byrne Estates.
The development consists of two piers extending into the waterfront with an iconic tower at each end. Underneath each pier is a car park above which sits a concrete podium deck. This podium deck required waterproofing to prevent water ingress into the car park below. Vandex Super was chosen as the waterproofing system due to its ease of use and proven track record in civil engineering projects around the world.

Waterproofing
All construction joints and joints between columns were chased out and re-profiled using Vandex Unimortar 1.
Vandex Super was then applied to the 9500m2 concrete podium deck (including the Vandex Unimortar 1 re-profiled joints) at a coverage rate of 1.2Kg/m2.
Movement joints were waterproofed using Vandex Flextape bonded to the concrete substrate using Vandex Uniflex NV adhesive.
Finally, 75mm of concrete was poured on top with movement joints formed in the applicable locations.
