What Type of Dampness Do You Have?

It is a common misconception that damp has a singular cause. The reality is that there are several different types of damp that can effect a building, each requiring specific solutions.

It is important to properly identify the type of dampness that is effecting your property. Using the wrong treatment method due to misidentification can often do more harm than good. The following symptoms can help with damp identification.

Rising Damp Symptoms

Peeling and blistering of wallpapers and paints

Damp walls can cause paint blistering, wallpaper peeling and plaster crumbling.

Visible dampness and efflorescent salts can be seen on lower sections of the wall.

Rising Damp Solutions

  1. Install new DPC using Dryzone or Dryrods to block damp.
  2. Damaged plaster may need to be replaced using a specialist damp-proofing plaster.

  1. Repair masonry defects e.g. cracks, damaged pointing, faulty window / door seals, etc...
  2. Apply Stormdry Masonry Protection Cream to the outside wall, which will stop rainwater soaking into porous bricks, stone and mortar.

  1. Improve ventilation - e.g. Humidistat extractor fan.
  2. Improve background heating & Insulate cold walls.

  4. Use mould-resistant paint to deal with symptoms.
