Vandex Flexbit Range
Polymer Modified Bitumen Compounds for Basement Waterproofing
 The Vandex Flexbit range consists of a number of polymer modified bitumen waterproofing compounds that can be applied by trowel or spray.
Flexbit products are particularly suited for application to the external face of underground structures (e.g. basements) that require waterproofing. A typical basement waterproofing application is shown in the diagram below:
In this example Flexbit 2KP is used as it offers a faster drying time, allowing it to be used in conjunction with Vandex Construction Joint Tape.
Vandex Construction Joint Tape has been embedded between the two layers of Flexbit 2KP to provide additional protection at the joint between the basement wall and the slab. Finally, Oldroyd Gtx20 has been used as a combined drainage membrane and protection board - other products from the Oldroyd range of drainage membranes could also have been used for this purpose. It is important to note that the Flexbit layer must be allowed to cure before the Oldroyd Gtx20 membrane is applied on top.
Flexbit 1KP and Flexbit 2KP
Flexbit 1KP and Flexbit 2KP are the most popular products Flexbit range - particularly for basement waterproofing applications. As well as a modified bitumen emulsion they contain polystyrene beads - making the products easier to apply and enhancing product flexibility.
Flexbit 1KP has the advantage of being a single component product.
Flexbit 2KP is similar to Flexbit 1KP, but includes a powder component that is mixed into the emulsion before application. The addition of the powder component results in a faster drying time. In summary:
- Vandex 1KP - single component product
- Vandex 2KP - two component product + faster drying time
Flexbit 1KP and 2KP are usually applied in two coats by trowel with a typical layer thickness of 3mm per coat. They can also be sprayed using specialist spraying equipment - contact our technical department for details. In common with the other products in the Flexbit range Flexbit 1KP and 2KP benefit from a particularly high bitumen to water ratio. Because Flexbit products contain highly refined bitumen, they benefit from low hazard classifications and have very little odour.

- Flexbit 1K - Similar to Flexbit 1KP but without polystyrene beads
- Flexbit 2K - Similar to Flexbit 2KP but without polystyrene beads
- Flexbit V - Low viscosity primer
- Flexbit S - Formulated specifically for spray application (without polystyrene beads)
