Stormdry Masonry Absorption Test Kit

Many defects in masonry that allow penetrating damp to occur, such as small cracks and porous mortar, brick, and stone, are difficult to identify by visual examination alone. By using a Stormdry Masonry Absorption Test Kit, a surveyor can identify whether walls are suitable for treatment with Stormdry Masonry Protection Cream.

The test kit contains the following, all contained in a handy Stormdry branded case:

  1. 4 × Stormdry gauges
  2. 30 ml sample of Stormdry Masonry Protection Cream
  3. Mastic adhesive
  4. Water bottle
  5. Paintbrush
  6. Graph paper and instructions

How it Works

The test kit allows users to apply small amounts of Stormdry Masonry Protection Cream to sections of wall. Once the treated test patches of cream have cured, Stormdry gauges are applied to both treated and untreated parts of the wall using the supplied mastic adhesive.

When filled with water, the Stormdry gauges simulate the effect of wind-driven rain. Calculations show that when the tube is properly filled with water, the water pressure is equivalent to wind-driven rain with a wind-speed of 98 mph.

By monitoring the level of the water in each tube over time, the user can measure how absorbent the wall is and see how well a treatment of Stormdry Masonry Protection Cream can prevent penetrating damp.

Full step-by-step application instructions are available in the downloads section of this page.

Replenishment and Standalone Items

Extra Stormdry gauges can be purchased separately for large jobs, allowing a surveyor to build a picture of where the worst affected areas of a building are. Some parts of a building may be more susceptible than others due to differing building materials and weather exposures.

For refills of any of the items in the kit, please contact our technical department on 01403 210204 or submit an enquiry.
